The month of April is usually the month of renewal. The birds are flying up North again. The buds on the trees and shrubs are making their appearances and most animals that have been hibernating for the winter instinctively know that its safe to return back to nature. As the weather gets warmer and Mother nature doesn’t skip a beat, neither should we. Usually with the tiniest hint of Spring, we feel the urge to start our Spring cleaning. We start off by cleaning out our closets and drawers, making the switch to lighter clothing. We de-clutter our basements and storage space by having tag sales or garage sales and we shine up the bbq for outdoor festivities. After we scrub every nook and cranny, we feel so much better. Having everything clean and organized allows us to feel vibrant and alive. Our Spring cleaning rituals get us into a positive state of mind. Spring cleaning should not be limited to our physical surroundings. Have you ever wondered why you feel so sluggish? Can’t move pass certain blockages in your life? Can’t seem to get ahead, no matter how much you think about making positive changes? We have all heard the term “your body is your temple”? Why not take the same attitude that you have during your Spring cleaning and apply them to the spiritual cleansing of your soul. We must all examine what clutter we have inside of ourselves keeping us from living our best life. Many of us are walking around with past hurts and resentments. Bitterness towards people who have hurt us. Living with the feelings of guilt that most likely others have imposed on us. These are just some dust bunnies that are lurking inside of our souls. Think of carrying around these negative feelings as extra baggage that you are dragging through your life, weighing you down. Cleansing our physical surroundings is only a start. If we do not do some soul cleansing, it is almost a given that the results can lead to feelings of depression, feeling powerless like a dog chasing its tail, and ultimately being unbalanced. We want to be happy all of the time but this underlying clutter is always blocking our flow of experiencing pure joy, peace and happiness. These blockages almost always hinder our spiritual growth. The good news is this does not have to stay this way. I am sure there isn’t a person out there who doesn’t want to feel happy, anxiety free and much lighter, especially on the inside. Not for just the moment; but for most moments of their life. The following are a few suggestions for doing some Spiritual spring cleaning and it can be done any time of the year. Be your own Critic and be extremely honest with yourself: You have all heard the expression “what’s eating you”? Identify what inside clutter is making you have negative thought patterns which blocks the flow of feeling empowered or entitled to fulfilling your deepest desires. Be honest with yourself. Hold up your own mirror and if you must, ask others around you whom you trust, what they feel your trouble spots are. Don’t get offended by their answers. Understand that if you didn’t think there were issues, you would not have asked in the first place. Sometimes, we cannot stay objective with ourselves. Other people who you interact with can shed some light on how you make them feel or how you present yourself to the world. You may already have the answers but if others agree, then at least you know that you are on the right track. Once you know what you must work on and release, now what? Practice a daily form of grounding & protection of your space through meditation: I know some of you may be thinking that meditation is for yogis or whacky spiritual people who climb mountains and meditate in the lotus position. I get it, I really do. However, I don’t do that at all. The art of meditating is no more than quieting your mind from the daily distractions of the outside world. If you never attempted to meditate, I suggest you start off in a place where few distractions take place such as in the shower before you start each day. After you lather up, visualize the bubbles capturing any negative energies that may have entered your space recently. Now picture the warm water falling upon your body as a beautiful white light of love and divine protection. Picture this light cleansing all of the dirty energy that is being rinsed from your body going straight down the drain. You now feel clean and full of energy inside and out. Now that your energy field is clean, use this same healing, protective light to encase your whole body. You may see yourself in a bubble of white light; or if you prefer, picture an egg shaped light surrounding your entire aura. The grounding technique is similar. As your standing up in the shower, place both feet close together. Picture healthy roots, similar to a healthy tree, coming out of the bottom of each foot, going through the shower floor, into the ground, grabbing on to Mother Earth; stay with this feeling for a short moment. You are now, cleansed, protected and fully grounded. You are now ready to start your day. Surround yourself with Positive People: As you know by now, I love to use analogies with word expressions. I know you have heard the expression“If you lie down with dogs, you are sure to get fleas” In other words, you usually attract the type of person that you seem to relate to. Or, to use another term “Like attracts like”. In order to change the negative thought patterns, I suggest that you sourround yourself with people whose spiritual health you admire. Preferably people who are centered in their life, balanced and have a positive attitude. Yes these people do exist and are out there. Once you start thinking in a positive mindset, you will soon attract the same positive people right into your space. Don’t be surprised to find out that most of the spiritual healthy people that you will attract have already been through trying, rough times themselves, and most likely did and still do internal cleansings. You will soon be the one in the crowd to share your testimony of how you shifted your thoughts and others will now admire you. Set Boundaries and know that its okay to say “No”: If you think about it, we often teach people how to treat us. Are you one of those people who don’t know how to say no? Do you have a difficult time disappointing people and therefore you feel responsible for other people's happiness over your own,? If you said yes to this, you obviously put other’s needs before your own. If you are a parent, it is very typical for you to partake in this type of mindset. Be careful to not be an enabler. Once you get people (even your own children) to depend on you to do things for them, or to make their decisions for them, guess what? Tag, you're it. Being responsible for other people around you can surely weigh you down, taking away from your own happiness. At the same time, you totally disable that person from learning their true lessons in this lifetime. Setting boundaries with others is one way to take back your power. Know that you are worth it. Instead of thinking, why me? Start thinking, why not me? Start adopting new patterns of thinking. Teaching others to be independent is the ultimate act of love. I am not saying not the help others. When you start feeling drained and are dreading doing a certain task, then most likely you are doing it against your will. You may be very surprised to know that others around you may have no idea that you are feeling this way. Communicate your feelings. Remember, feelings can never be wrong or right. Others cannot tell you how you should or shouldn’t feel. Little by little, one step at a time, doing what feels right to you is your way of loving yourself more. When this happens, you will be free to accept more love into your space. With a smile on your face and a lighter heart, you are well on your way to a healthier mindset. These are just a few techniques that I have found helpful on my journey. Although there are many more tools available, the point is to start today with a shift in your thoughts. Remember, change can be good, especially when your carrying around a much lighter load. It is always my pleasure to share with you what the Spirit World (SW) has taught me along the way. Please stay tuned for future blogs and for those of you who would like to receive healing messages from the other side, please join me at The Bayview Restaurant on Friday night, April 29th and/or at Villa Marcello on Monday night, May 16th.
